One-to-OneData Analysis Coachingfor African PhD Students in Social Sciences

The fear is real: standing at your defence, asked to explain a coefficient, an interaction or a mediation pathway you did not truly produce. Between a raw questionnaire and correct, defensible analysis sits work no one taught you, cleaning data, choosing tests, reading output, then testing moderation and mediation with the SPSS PROCESS macro, building a process or path model of your framework, and writing results that cohere and tie back to your literature. Each week your coach works one skill on your own data, SPSS the tool not the point, until you own it.

One coach, hands-on · One live session a week, up to an hour · Built for African PhD social sciences students

Why coaching works

Why coaching works, where self-study alone does not.

A skill is acquired by doing it under guidance, not by watching. You can read about a regression table and still freeze when the output is your own and a committee is asking what it means. Coaching is where the skill becomes yours: you move from a raw questionnaire to correct, defensible analysis on your own data, your coach corrects you in the moment, and each week adds another challenge your results report and defence depend on, from cleaning and testing the reliability and validity of your instrument, descriptives, correlation and regression, then to moderation and mediation with the SPSS PROCESS macro, a process or path model of your framework, using AI honestly, and results that hold together and tie back to your literature. Open any pillar below to see how it moves your thesis.

You do it, you do not just watch

Every module follows the same learning loop. The coach demonstrates the technique, you do it yourself on your own data, and you are corrected and checked until it is automatic. You never simply watch a video alone and hope it sticks.

Why this matters: A tool you do not drive is a tool you do not own. Practising the skill yourself is what makes it yours.

What this means for you
  • The coach demonstrates, then you practise the same technique yourself
  • You drive SPSS and the PROCESS macro; the coach guides you through the work
  • You are corrected as you go, until the technique is automatic
  • Hands-on practice, not a passive lecture
  • The skill becomes yours, not the coach's

Across the coaching: this doing-it-yourself loop runs through all ten modules, from data set-up to a defence-ready results report.

One coach in your week

You work with one coach who stays with you for the whole engagement. They come to know your data, your field and your habits, so the guidance is specific to you rather than generic advice repeated to a room.

Why this matters: Continuity compounds. A coach who already knows your work can go straight to what matters, week after week.

What this means for you
  • The same coach for the whole package
  • One live session a week, up to an hour, on video, booked via Calendly
  • Guidance tuned to your analysis, not a generic curriculum
  • A coach who fills the gap between supervision meetings
  • Momentum built and held across the weeks

Note: your coach never replaces or overrules your supervisor. They work alongside supervision, so the results you take back are already sharper.

See the thirteen modules

Practice on your own dataset

You practise every procedure on the dataset that matters, your own, or on a practice dataset if you are equipping ahead of your own data. The variables you define, the model you run, the interaction you probe and the tables you build are all on your real data.

Why this matters: Skill practised on real data turns into results report progress, not abstract knowledge you still have to transfer.

What this means for you
  • You work on your own dataset, or a practice dataset if you are equipping ahead
  • Every session builds a skill your results report depends on
  • Procedures land in the context where you will use them
  • A practice dataset is available if you are equipping ahead of your own data
  • Small, achievable progress on the analysis that counts

The bright line: you drive the work throughout. The coach guides and corrects, but never runs your analysis or writes your results report for you.

See the thirteen modules

Correction in the moment

Because the coach reviews your actual output, you are corrected the instant a procedure slips, not weeks later on a returned draft. A regression that overreaches, an assumption you skipped, a moderation path you cannot justify, all fixed while you are still in the work.

Why this matters: Correction in the moment is the fastest way to build a skill. You do not carry the mistake into the next model.

What this means for you
  • Close feedback, so the coach sees exactly what you ran
  • Mistakes caught and fixed as they happen
  • Feedback on your own output, not on a generic example
  • The hour spent on substance, because your practice is reviewed first
  • A written summary of the fixes within five working days

How it lands: you leave each session with three concrete things to practise, so the correction turns straight into your next week of work.

A rhythm that fits a real life

Most PhD students are doing this around work, family or distance. The coaching is built for exactly that. The hands-on practice happens in your own analysis days, and the one hour with your coach is reserved for substantive work on what you already did, never for catching up.

Why this matters: An hour a week becomes a results report written, because the rhythm respects the little time a working, parenting or caring candidate can spare.

What this means for you
  • You practise in your own protected analysis blocks
  • One live hour a week, at a time you choose
  • You send your practice by Day 5, the coach reviews it before you meet
  • Book, reschedule and cancel your sessions yourself
  • Momentum that fits around work, family and distance

Your week, mapped: the switcher further down the page walks through each day, from your practice to your sixty-minute hour.

Skills you keep for good

The SPSS analysis skills and the statistical judgement you build in coaching do not expire when this thesis is bound. Built once, they carry you through the remaining chapters, and through the papers, reports and proposals that come after.

Why this matters: You are not renting help for one deadline. You are building a craft that serves every piece of research you ever produce.

What this means for you
  • Descriptive, correlation and regression skills that stay with you
  • Moderation and mediation with the PROCESS macro, for good
  • Analysis craft that carries into papers, reports and future studies
  • Six months of e-learning access to replay every module
  • Independence you keep long after the coaching ends

A skill you own, not a service you rent.

Coaching builds the analysis skills and the SPSS fluency into you, so you can do the work yourself, on this thesis and every study after it. You stay the analyst throughout, and the skills stay with you for good.

What we coach, module by module

Thirteen coaching modules, each removes a specific drag on your analysis.

Every module follows the same loop: the coach demonstrates the technique, you practise it on your own data, and you are corrected until it is automatic. Together they carry you from designing your instrument to defending your analysis, including the moderation, mediation and process or path model depth a PhD committee interrogates. The path below moves on its own from 01 to 13; hover the card or use the pause button to take your time, or select any step to jump.

Your journey, 01 to 13

Your week, with a coach in it

How an hour a week becomes a defence-ready results report.

Most PhD students juggle the thesis with work and family, so coaching has to fit a real week. The hands-on work happens in your analysis days, where you practise the procedure and the tool on your own data. The hour with your coach is reserved for substantive work on what you already did, never for catching up. Here is what each day looks like.

    Days 1 & 2

Practise last week's technique on your own data

The first two days are spent doing the thing you and your coach worked through in the session: re-run the analysis you started together, clean the dataset, recode the variables, or rebuild the model to the specification you agreed.

This is the smallest, most achievable kind of progress: applying a technique you have just been shown, on the data that matters. Most PhD scholars find these the most productive days of the week.

    • Apply the techniqueRun it on your real data, do not just read the output.
    • Small, sure progressA step you have just been shown, on the dataset that counts.
    Days 3 & 4

Advance the analysis into new territory

Now the harder practice. You push the technique into new territory: a moderation model with an interaction term, or a mediation path and its indirect effect through the Hayes PROCESS macro, using the skill you are building, on your own data or a set exercise.

This is where doctoral analysis feels lonely; you sit with the output until it makes sense. Even a first, imperfect run is better than none, and your coach will sharpen what you produced.

    • Defended blocksTwo or three protected hours, around work and family.
    • Run it anywayThe cost of running nothing is a session with nothing to work on.
    Day 5

Bring your output, send your questions

You send your coach what you practised this week: the dataset you cleaned, the model you ran, the interaction you probed, the PROCESS output you produced.

You add two or three specific questions, the places the analysis did not click. Sending it by Day 5 gives your coach two full working days to review your output before you meet, and that is what makes the session substantive.

    • Two or three questionsSpecific gaps, not a wish list.
    • Sent by Day 5So your hour is worked, not wasted on catch-up.
    Day 6

Your coach reviews your output carefully

Behind the scenes, your coach goes through what you ran: noting where the analysis slipped, which step to demonstrate again, and the hands-on work to do with you tomorrow, the model to rebuild, the assumptions to check, the interaction to re-probe.

You are not idle on Day 6. You are reading, practising or resting. But the substantive coaching work for the week is already under way on what you produced.

    • Reviewed beforeSo the hour starts on substance, from the first minute.
    • Worked through afterThe fixes for your session are prepared in advance.
    Day 7

    Your sixty-minute hour, hands-on

You arrive with your output already reviewed, so the hour is substantive from the first minute. You work the technique together: re-run the model, correct the recoding, interpret the interaction, trace the indirect effect, while the coach guides and you drive.

You leave with three concrete things to practise for the coming week, so the momentum carries straight into your next analysis days.

    • You drive, coach guidesThe analysis done together on your own data.
    • Three next stepsEvery hour ends with clear practice for the week.
    After the session

A written summary of the fixes

Within five working days of your session, a written summary of the fixes follows, so nothing from the hour is lost and you can act on it in your own time.

That summary, plus your three practice tasks, is what turns one live hour into a full week of forward motion, and it repeats, week after week, until your results report is written.

    • Within five working daysThe fixes in writing, yours to keep.
    • Momentum, repeatedOne hour a week, compounded across the engagement.

Plays through on its own. Hover to pause, or click any day to jump.

A view of one coaching week. The practice happens in your analysis days, and your live hour is reserved for substantive, hands-on work.

    Inside the coaching

What a session actually looks like.

Every session runs the same way, so you always know what to expect and how to prepare.

One-to-oneUp to an hourBy video callClose feedbackYour own work
    What you gain

What you will be able to do, once the coaching has done its work.

Coaching builds the SPSS mechanics and the statistical judgement your analysis and results report depend on, into you. These are the skills you walk away able to use yourself, on this thesis and every piece of research after it.

    01

Design your instrument and collect a defensible dataset

Turn each objective and construct into a valid, reliable instrument, then plan and run a data collection that your committee cannot fault at the design stage.

    02

Set up and screen your own dataset in SPSS

Define and label your variables, clean and screen your data, and check the assumptions each test rests on, so the analysis you build stands on a dataset you can account for at a defence.

    03

Describe your sample and read its correlations

Produce the descriptive statistics and the correlation matrix your results chapter opens with, read what they say about your sample, and present them in defence-ready tables you can explain.

    04

Build and defend a regression model

Run multiple regression on your own data, read every coefficient, test the assumptions, and explain what the model shows and where it stops, so you can answer for it under a panel's questioning.

    05

Model moderation and mediation with the PROCESS macro

Probe an interaction and trace an indirect effect using the Hayes PROCESS macro, the moderation and mediation depth a PhD committee actually interrogates, and justify each pathway as analysis you genuinely ran yourself.

    06

Write your own results report and rehearse the defence

Turn your SPSS output into a clean, correctly reported results report in Word, then rehearse the questions a panel asks, so the results, the write-up and the answers you give are all genuinely yours.

    What scholars say

From the PhD scholars running their own analysis.

For months I could run a regression, but I froze the moment my supervisor asked about an indirect effect. My coach sat with me on my own data and took me through the PROCESS macro until I could explain the mediation pathway in my own words. I ran it myself by the end, which is exactly what a panel wants to see.

I understood my main effects, but the interaction term made no sense to me at all. We built the moderation model together in SPSS and probed it step by step, until the interaction finally read as a real relationship, not just an output. I stopped dreading the follow-up questions.

I had tables everywhere and no chapter. My coach showed me how to move from output to prose, table by table, so that results report became an argument rather than a dump of numbers. Writing it myself is what made me able to defend it.

My analysis was done, but I dreaded the questions. We rehearsed the defence on my own results, one probe at a time, and now I can trace every coefficient back to where it came from. The work is genuinely mine and I can stand behind every figure.

    Coaching packages

One coaching programme. Three ways to take it.

All three are one-to-one, hands-on coaching, and they differ in how many of the thirteen modules they cover and whether e-learning access comes with them. The first tier coaches the foundational core, modules 01 to 04, from designing your instrument to a clean, tested dataset. The middle tier adds modules 05 to 08, descriptives, correlation, regression and moderation and mediation with the SPSS PROCESS macro, plus six months of e-learning access to modules 01 to 08. The top tier adds modules 09 to 13, a process or path model, hypothesis testing, using AI honestly, your results report and defending every statistic, the complete set, plus six months of e-learning access to all thirteen. You pay to enrol, then book your weekly sessions. Most PhD students choose the middle option.

Is this a coaching programme or a course? +

It is one-to-one coaching. You work with a coach who, each week, demonstrates the techniques and guides you hands-on through the SPSS analysis while you run it yourself. That is different from our self-paced courses, which teach the same methods as structured modules you study alone. Coaching is the higher-touch, higher-value option for applying the methods to your own dataset; the courses are the lower-cost way to build the basics. Most PhD scholars use both, in sequence.

How far does this go? Is it only the basic tests, or the moderation and mediation my committee will ask about? +

This line is built for the doctoral depth. Beyond the descriptive, correlation and regression work of the Master's route, the ten modules carry you into moderation and mediation with the Hayes PROCESS macro, interaction and indirect effects, then a results report write-up and a defence-readiness rehearsal of your results. Wherever your analysis stands now, the coaching meets you there and takes it forward to the depth a PhD committee actually interrogates.

Will my coach run my analysis or write my results report for me? +

No, and that is the bright line. Your coach demonstrates each technique and reviews how you apply it, but you run every model and write every paragraph yourself. The coaching builds your competence; it never produces the analysis or the chapter you will submit and defend. That is precisely what lets you trace every coefficient back to where it came from when a panel probes it.

Do I need to have my own dataset ready before I start? +

No. If you already have your PhD proposal or thesis dataset, you are welcome to bring it and work through it directly, including at the top tier. If you do not yet have data, the coaching supplies a practice dataset you can carry through every module, from set-up to a defence-ready results report, so nobody has to wait for their own data to begin.

I am weak with SPSS and I have never touched the PROCESS macro. Will you really teach me the tools? +

Yes. The tools are half the programme, and they are taught hands-on, on your own data, with close feedback. The first modules design your instrument and plan your data collection; from there SPSS is set up with you and you clean and code your dataset, then build up through descriptive, correlation and regression work to installing and running the Hayes PROCESS macro for moderation and mediation. You do not need to know any of it beforehand; you need only be willing to drive while the coach guides.

How does the weekly rhythm work? +

You practise through the week, send your output and two or three specific questions by Day 5, and meet your coach for one live hour on video to work the analysis together. Because your coach has reviewed your output beforehand, the hour is substantive from the first minute. You leave with three things to practise, and a written summary of the fixes follows within five working days.

Will my supervisor be enough? Why do I need coaching as well? +

Your supervisor remains your supervisor; we do not replace them. The honest reality is that most African postgraduate supervisors carry many students alongside heavy teaching and administrative loads, which leaves limited time to sit with a scholar through every SPSS run or to coach the PROCESS macro line by line. That structural shortage is not their fault. Coaching fills the gap between supervision meetings: weekly, hands-on, focused on the analysis and the tools, so the results you take back to your supervisor are already sharper.

How do I pay, and can I use mobile money? +

You enrol through secure checkout and pay in your local currency, by card, bank transfer or mobile money where it is supported. Payment confirms your place, and we then email you instructions for booking your weekly sessions. If you are unsure which package fits before you pay, email your situation to info@aosars.com or use the no-commitment options above.
