One-to-OnePostgraduate-to-ConsultancyTransition Coaching for African Graduates

You finished the degree and you know your field deeply, but nobody is paying you for it: organisations hire consultants for exactly what you know, yet you have no offer they can buy, no way to find or qualify clients, no proposal, no defensible price, and no method for delivering advisory work. Each week your coach works one piece with you, on your own expertise, then corrects it closely until it holds. You leave able to win and deliver paid consulting engagements, and you own every part of it.

One coach, hands-on · Ten weekly sessions of sixty minutes · Built for African graduates

Why coaching works

Why coaching works, where self-study alone does not.

Consulting is learned by doing it under guidance, not by reading about it. You can study a proposal template or a pricing formula and still freeze when you have to scope a real client's problem or name your fee out loud. Coaching is where the skill becomes yours: you build each part on your own expertise, your coach corrects it in the moment, and each week adds another capability your consulting depends on, from naming your offer and turning research skills into billable services to finding clients, writing proposals, pricing and contracting, and delivering an engagement. Open any pillar below to see how it moves your practice.

You do it, you do not just watch

Every module follows the same learning loop. The coach demonstrates the technique, you build the asset yourself on your own practice, and you are corrected and checked until it holds. You never simply watch a video alone and hope it sticks.

Why this matters: A tool you do not drive is a tool you do not own. Building the asset yourself is what makes it yours.

What this means for you
  • The coach demonstrates, then you build the same asset yourself
  • You drive the tools; the coach guides you through the work
  • You are corrected as you go, until the work holds
  • Hands-on practice, not a passive lecture
  • The consultancy becomes yours, not the coach's

Across the coaching: this doing-it-yourself loop runs through all ten modules, from setting up your toolkit to pitching your first engagement.

One coach in your week

You work with one coach who stays with you for the whole engagement. They come to know your expertise, your market and your habits, so the guidance is specific to you rather than generic advice repeated to a room.

Why this matters: Continuity compounds. A coach who already knows your work can go straight to what matters, week after week.

What this means for you
  • The same coach for the whole programme
  • One live session a week, sixty minutes, on Zoom
  • Guidance tuned to your practice, not a generic curriculum
  • A coach who fills the gap between you and your first clients
  • Momentum built and held across the ten weeks

Note: your coach never sells for you or writes your bids. They guide alongside your own effort, so the materials you take to market are already sharper.

See the eight modules

Practice on your own consultancy

You build every asset on the practice that matters, your own consultancy, or on a set exercise if you are equipping ahead of your first client. The capability statement you draft, the rate card you price, the website you set up and the proposal you write are all your own.

Why this matters: Skill applied to your own practice turns into a functioning consultancy the same week, not abstract knowledge you still have to transfer.

What this means for you
  • You work on your own capability statement, rate card and website, not samples
  • Every session moves your actual consultancy forward
  • Techniques land in the context where you will use them
  • Set exercises are available if you are equipping ahead of your first client
  • Small, achievable progress on the practice that counts

The bright line: you build the work throughout. The coach guides and corrects, but never writes your bids or runs your practice for you.

See the eight modules

Correction in the moment

Because the coach reviews your actual work, you are corrected the instant something slips, not weeks later. A rate that undersells you, a capability statement that lists tasks instead of naming outcomes, a proposal that will not close, all fixed while you are still in the work.

Why this matters: Correction in the moment is the fastest way to build a skill. You do not carry the mistake into the next client.

What this means for you
  • Close feedback, so the coach sees exactly what you built
  • Mistakes caught and fixed as they happen
  • Feedback on your own materials, not a generic example
  • The hour spent on substance, because your practice is reviewed first
  • A written summary of the fixes within five working days

How it lands: you leave each session with three concrete things to build, so the correction turns straight into your next week of work.

A rhythm that fits a real life

Most graduates are doing this around work, job-hunting, family or distance. The coaching is built for exactly that. The hands-on work happens in your own working days, and the one hour with your coach is reserved for substantive work on what you already did, never for catching up.

Why this matters: An hour a week becomes a consultancy launched, because the rhythm respects the little time a working or job-seeking graduate can spare.

What this means for you
  • You build in your own protected working blocks
  • One live hour a week, at a time you choose
  • You send your work by Day 5, the coach reviews it before you meet
  • Book, reschedule and cancel your sessions yourself
  • Momentum that fits around work, family and distance

Your week, mapped: the switcher further down the page walks through each day, from your build to your sixty-minute hour.

Skills you keep for good

The consultancy skills you build in coaching do not expire when your first engagement is won. Built once, they carry you through every proposal, every rate negotiation and every client you take on after.

Why this matters: You are not renting help for one bid. You are building a practice that serves every engagement you ever win.

What this means for you
  • Positioning, capability-statement and rate-card skills that stay with you
  • Tool fluency, from your website builder to your proposal craft, for good
  • Craft that carries into every future bid, pitch and client
  • Six months of e-learning access to replay every module
  • Independence you keep long after the coaching ends

A skill you own, not a service you rent.

Coaching builds the consultancy craft into you, so you can do the work yourself, on this first engagement and every client after it. You own every asset throughout, and the skills stay with you for good.

What we coach, module by module

Eight coaching modules, each removes a specific drag on turning your expertise into paid work.

Every module follows the same loop: the coach demonstrates the technique, you build it on your own expertise, and you are corrected until it holds. Together they carry you from naming your consulting offer to running a steady referral pipeline. The path below moves on its own from 01 to 08; hover the card or use the pause button to take your time, or select any step to jump.

Your journey, 01 to 8

Your week, with a coach in it

How an hour a week becomes a consultancy launched.

Most graduates juggle this with work, job-hunting and family, so coaching has to fit a real week. The hands-on work happens in your working days, where you build each asset on your own practice. The hour with your coach is reserved for substantive work on what you already did, never for catching up. Here is what each day looks like.

    Days 1 & 2

Practise last week's skill on your own work

The first two days are spent doing the thing you and your coach worked through in the session: redraft the capability statement you started together, refine the rate card, set up your website pages, or rewrite the proposal section to the structure you agreed.

This is the smallest, most achievable kind of progress: applying a skill you have just been shown, on the practice that matters. Most graduates find these the most productive days of the week.

    • Apply the toolDo the technique on your real practice, do not just admire it.
    • Small, sure progressA skill you have just been shown, on the work that counts.
    Days 3 & 4

Advance the practice into new territory

Now the harder practice. You push the skill into new territory: a fuller proposal, a tougher pricing decision, a stretch of brand copy, using the asset you are building, on your own practice or a set exercise.

This is where going solo feels lonely; you sit with the blank page until the words arrive. Even imperfect drafts are better than none, and your coach will sharpen what you wrote.

    • Defended blocksTwo or three protected hours, around work and family.
    • Draft anywayThe cost of building nothing is a session with nothing to work on.
    Day 5

Bring your practice, send your questions

You send your coach what you built this week: the capability statement you drafted, the rate card you priced, the website page you set up, the proposal section you wrote.

You add two or three specific questions, the places the technique did not click. Sending it by Day 5 gives your coach two full working days to review your practice before you meet, and that is what makes the session substantive.

    • Two or three questionsSpecific gaps, not a wish list.
    • Sent by Day 5So your hour is worked, not wasted on catch-up.
    Day 6

Your coach reviews your practice carefully

Behind the scenes, your coach goes through what you practised: noting where the technique slipped, which step to demonstrate again, and the hands-on work to do with you tomorrow, the rate to defend, the proposal to tighten, the brand to sharpen.

You are not idle on Day 6. You are reading, practising or resting. But the substantive coaching work for the week is already under way on what you built.

    • Reviewed beforeSo the hour starts on substance, from the first minute.
    • Worked through afterThe fixes for your session are prepared in advance.
    Day 7

    Your sixty-minute hour, hands-on

You arrive with your practice already reviewed, so the hour is substantive from the first minute. You work the technique together: sharpen the capability statement, defend the rate, tighten the proposal, rehearse the pitch, while the coach guides and you drive.

You leave with three concrete things to build for the coming week, so the momentum carries straight into your next working days.

    • You drive, coach guidesThe technique done together on your own practice.
    • Three next stepsEvery hour ends with clear practice for the week.
    After the session

A written summary of the fixes

Within five working days of your session, a written summary of the fixes follows, so nothing from the hour is lost and you can act on it in your own time.

That summary, plus your three practice tasks, is what turns one live hour into a full week of forward motion, and it repeats, week after week, until your consultancy is launched.

    • Within five working daysThe fixes in writing, yours to keep.
    • Momentum, repeatedOne hour a week, compounded across the engagement.

Plays through on its own. Hover to pause, or click any day to jump.

A view of one coaching week. The building happens in your working days, and your live hour is reserved for substantive, hands-on work.

    What you gain

What you will be able to do, once the coaching has done its work.

Coaching builds the consultancy skills your practice depends on, into you. These are the skills you walk away able to use yourself, on this first engagement and every client after it.

    01

Name what you sell, and set up to sell it

Turn your postgraduate expertise into a named consulting proposition, set up the toolkit a working practice runs on, and know exactly who you serve and what you solve.

    02

Present your expertise with a capability statement and a defensible rate

Build a capability statement that names outcomes, not tasks, and a rate card and day rate you can defend to any client, grounded in pan-African market realities.

    03

Show up as a credible practice online

Craft a personal brand and a light, professional website that make clients take you seriously before you have said a word, both built and owned by you.

    04

Find the work, and win the proposal

Open the right conversations through a referral pipeline you run yourself, and write a tailored proposal that answers the client and closes the work.

    05

Pitch and deliver a client-ready first engagement, for good

Pitch and price a first engagement, scope and deliver it cleanly, and keep every skill so it carries into every client after this one.

    What graduates say

    From the graduates now consulting.

I had deep expertise and nothing to show a client, no capability statement, no rate, no website. In a few weeks my coach helped me build all of it and price my work without apologising for it. I did the work myself, which is what I actually needed.

I kept underquoting because I had no idea what my day was worth. We built the rate card together on my own numbers, and now I quote a defensible day rate and hold it. The coaching paid for itself on my first proposal.

I did not know how to find clients at all. My coach showed me how to open conversations and turn my network into a referral pipeline, and the enquiries started coming. It changed how I saw myself.

Writing a proposal used to terrify me. My coach worked through a live bid with me until it was ready to submit, and I understood every choice in it. I own the whole thing.

    Coaching packages

One coaching programme. Three ways to take it.

All three are the same One-to-One, hands-on coaching; they differ in how many of the eight modules they cover. The core trains modules 01 to 03, positioning your expertise and finding your clients. The middle package adds modules 04 to 05 and six months of e-learning access, so you can win the work. The top package covers all eight modules, through delivery and a referral pipeline, with six months of e-learning access to every module. In each one you build and practise the skills on your own material and you own every output. You pay to enrol, then book your weekly sessions. Most graduates choose the middle option.

Is this a coaching programme or a course? +

It is one-to-one coaching. You work with a coach who, each week, demonstrates the techniques and guides you hands-on through building each asset while you do the work yourself. That is different from our self-paced courses, which teach the same craft as structured modules you study alone. Coaching is the higher-touch, higher-value option for applying the skills to your own practice; the courses are the lower-cost way to build the basics. Many graduates use both, in sequence.

I have not settled on my area of expertise yet. Is this for me? +

Yes. The second module works with you to turn your postgraduate strengths into a named, defensible consulting offer, so you do not need to arrive with a fixed niche. If you already have one, we start from there; if you do not, we find it together before you build the assets that depend on it.

Will my coach write my capability statement, proposals or bids for me? +

No, and that is the bright line. Your coach demonstrates each technique and reviews how you apply it, but you build every asset and write every proposal yourself. The coaching builds your skill and your practice; it never hands you a finished document produced by someone else. That is exactly what keeps the consultancy, and the credibility, honestly yours.

I am not confident with websites, design or pricing. Will you really teach me the tools? +

Yes. The tools are central to the programme, and they are taught hands-on, on your own materials, with close feedback. The first module sets your toolkit up with you, from your website builder to your rate calculator. From there you learn to build your capability statement in PowerPoint, your brand in Canva, your site in a light builder, and your pricing in Excel. You do not need to know any of it beforehand; you need only be willing to drive while the coach guides.

Do you guarantee I will win a client? +

No, and any honest coach would say the same. What we guarantee is that you finish client-ready: a capability statement, a defensible rate card, a brand, a website, a proposal and a rehearsed pitch, all built and owned by you. Whether a specific client says yes depends on your market and your effort, which no coach controls. What the coaching does control is that you walk in prepared, priced and credible.

How does the weekly rhythm work? +

You build through the week, send your work and two or three specific questions by Day 5, and meet your coach for one live hour to work the techniques together. Because your coach has reviewed your work beforehand, the hour is substantive from the first minute. You leave with three things to build, and a written summary of the fixes follows within five working days. The programme runs for a fixed ten weeks with a clear end point.

How is this different from your full academic build? +

This programme is scoped to building your consultancy practice only: the offer, the assets, the pricing, the pipeline, the proposal and the first pitch. It does not develop an academic proposal or thesis chapters. If you want the full academic build as well, that is a separate, larger programme, and you are welcome to take both; but here, every session goes into standing up your consultancy.

How do I pay, and can I use mobile money? +

You enrol through secure checkout and pay in your local currency, by card, bank transfer or mobile money where it is supported. Payment confirms your place, and we then email you instructions for booking your weekly sessions. If you are unsure which package fits before you pay, email your situation to info@aosars.com or use the no-commitment options above.
